Scientific Association of Mechanical Engineering (SAME) held its third annual competition in April 2017 with the subject of design, building and launching a glider.

The competition’s goal was to ignite passion in students and encourage them to study and apply what they know in a practical field. This year, 19 teams registered and on the day of competition 12 teams showed up.

Competitors were students from the University of Tehran, Alzahra University, Payam-e Noor University of Mashhad, K. N. Toosi University of Technology, Islamic Azad University North Tehran Branch and the Amirkabir University of Technology.

Finally, Persius 1 team from the Payam-e Noor University of Mashhad ranked the first place with the record of 33 meters and 82 points, and Persius 2 team from the same university won the second place with the record of 30 meters and 81.2 points. Third Place was achieved by Wings of Flight, a team from Alzahra University with the record of 25.5 meters and 71.4 points.

Also, Tesla team from the University of Tehran could obtain the 5th place with the record of 14 meters and 69.8 points. However, they had the lightest glider in this competition.

At the end, the awards ceremony was held at the hall of the old school of Mechanical Engineering where Dr. Abrinia, the chairman of the school of Mechanical Engineering, spoke (for a few minutes) to the students.
