Fees and Financial Support

Tuition fees

Tuition fees for international students from non-Persian speaking countries is 2300 USD per semester, and for students from Persian-speaking countries is 1850 USD per semester. The tuition fee does not include accommodation, food, textbooks, medical insurance, and other living costs. Members of the immediate family of students studying at the same time at the University of Tehran and paying a tuition fee, are offered significant discount on their tuition.

Scholarships

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers scholarships to a selected number of academically eligible students. The scholarships cover the tuition fees for the whole program, equivalent to two academic years.

Living costs in Tehran

in addition to tuition fees and accommodation, prospective students need to take into consideration the living costs in Tehran. Taxi fare from the airport to the main campus is about 25 USD. Medical insurance will be arranged for all students and costs about 60 USD per year per person. Public-transport passes are 5 USD per month per person. The university has scheduled a partial lunch plan for its students on university workdays, i.e., Saturday to Wednesday, for a subsidized fee of about 1 USD per meal. Holidays are excluded from this plan. International student dormitories have kitchens equipped with necessary appliances, but students can eat out if they wish. Meals in mid-range restaurants cost around 5 USD. Prospective students should be aware of other life expenses, including textbooks, stationaries, and clothing.

Banking

After registration is completed, students receive a letter of introduction to a bank, in which they can open bank accounts. in addition to the letter, banks require student's original passport. Accounts can be opened both in Iranian Rials and in US Dollars. Exchange rates are announced on the website of the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran (https://www.sanarate.ir/Default.aspx). Please note that debit cards and access cards from foreign banks and credit cards are not acceptable in Iran. After opening their bank account, students can pay their tuition fee by transferring the tuition fee amount to the University of Tehran's account. International bank transfers are not accepted.
